Kindle eBook of the Day - 30 Pieces of Silver by Carolyn McCray

The Eiffel Tower is attacked…by a Christian suicide bomber.

Within the twisted wreckage a cache of bones is found. Bones that are inscribed with ancient Greek, letters that identify the remains as those of John the Baptist—and a promise to guide the seeker to the tomb of the Savior himself.

Tasked with untangling this millennia-old mystery, Dr. Rebecca Monroe, a paleo-archeologist, and Special Forces, Sergeant Vincent Brandt are hounded across three continents to attempt to piece together the bones’ clues. But their quest will not be an easy one. Born at the foot of the Cross, a secret society known only as the Knot has guarded the Savior’s bones, and they will do anything—even commit genocide—to protect the dark and controversial truth of Christ’s final days.

You can purchase 30 Pieces of Silver in the store above.

A Father's Love, A Son's Rebellion - George and McCoy O'Neal from The Valley of Candles

The Valley of Candles is free until 9/22, get your copy here. The following is an excerpt.

When I reached my house the time was getting close to two in the morning. As I pulled in I switched off the lights of my car before they set the house ablaze. The lights were still on in the living room as I could see them walking up the drive. I wondered if he was still awake. As I approached the house I could hear the phone ring and quickly thought of the previous events not an hour before, knowing the Pastor had second thoughts. As I got closer the television took over the phone in annoyance as it blared its white noise.
All the lights were on in the house it seemed, which really didn't surprise me knowing my father’s sleeping habits.
I started through the house turning out lights leaving the living room to last and finding a sleeping aging man of 47 years old that had drifted off while reading the big book.
This type of behavior had been a ritual with my dad ever since I could remember. Without a second thought I grabbed a blanket that was draped over the couch and placed it over him. Then I turned out the light and turned off the television and headed upstairs to bed. Only thinking of sleeping away this terrible nightmare that had become my life in the last thirty minutes.
As I settled into bed the only thing I could think of was how my dad would react to such news. My mind kept mulling over different scenarios. Slowly my dad's raucous snoring began to seep under my door into my ears. I tossed and turned in bed hoping the excessive movement would tire me out. Images of my father looming over me, Bible in hand screaming verses, or taking me out of school to home school me, or worse yet, him making me bring Anne over to discuss the situation. But then I convinced myself how much in the dark my dad was. He knew nothing about my life, only what I wanted him to know and even then it was very little. Shortly after I fell asleep dreaming of Anne sitting on my lap staring down at me.
My dad ate breakfast the same way every day. He would begin by getting up at 6:30 each and every morning. Preparing the coffee the morning before really helped his morning ritual. By the time his shower was finished the fresh aroma would awaken his senses to the Lord's Day. He would become instantly refreshed, no matter how much sleep he had the night before. He would continue after getting his coffee by pouring a bowl of cereal. Sitting at the kitchen table he would begin to methodically start his day the way the Lord planned. He was a man that looked like a Bible Salesman in every sense of the phrase. As brewed coffee filled the air, George rose and grabbed himself a second cup. The clock on the wall read 7:30 a.m. Before he began he would pray the prayer of his day. It was always the same focused with love and devotion and a longing to be closer to God.
"Dear Lord, I thank your heavenly grace for this meal and the beautiful day you have brought us. Your love can be seen in so many ways. I cherish the thought of the day I come before you and see the palace you have prepared. I thank you for all you've done, I ask you for guidance today Lord as I go out into the world and prepare your message and your will. Instill your love in me and flow through me with words of love and acts of compassion. I trust you with all that I am. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen."
He was wearing a white short sleeved shirt and black tie; eyes closed praying intently throughout raising his hands high. During the prayer I entered, dressed in jeans and a T-shirt with a coat in hand. I was impatient, ready for the day to be over.
"We going to this thing or what?"
My impatience not only showed in my voice but also my posture as I reached for the door, hoping my dad would follow right after. He looked up to see me and suddenly became confused.
"Huh?" He asked with surprising wonder.
"What time do we even have to be there?" I persisted, wondering how much of this crazy play I would have to act as I felt it wearing me down.
"McCoy, I thought you were still asleep,” my dad stated with no emotion silently saying we weren't going anywhere yet.
"No, I am here wide awake bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to move."
"There is no need for that kind of talk young-” dad was about to say but I cut him short.
"How long do you think this going to take?"
With each passing moment I was growing impatient leaning against the wall, then the refrigerator. He picked up on this as if he was suddenly speaking to someone who had just come in for an eighteen pack of Miller Light and carton of cigarettes, waiting for his change, his voice quickly took a different tone. He held my change and decided to count it out penny by penny rather than give me a fistful of dollars so I could be on his merry way. He went on eating his breakfast.
"You sure you don't want any breakfast son, you look like you didn't get much sleep, what time did you finally stroll in?"
"I don't know, late,” I said trying not to bring the previous nights adventures up any more than I had to. I knew we probably would have to pick up the Pastor before the rally and I quickly despised the friendship that man and my father had even more. I felt a pressure to get this part of my life over with as quickly as possible and pushing once again with a little more sarcasm than I probably should have, "Well, I am too old to watch Saturday morning cartoons, and I never eat breakfast, I am awake, taken a shower. What do you think? You ready to go?"
He pointed to a bowl on the sink and I shook my head saying, "I am not hungry, I already told you, I just want to go."
"Have you completed your morning reading?" Dad asked ignoring my protests as if I had never spoken.
"Yeah, Proverbs 21 and still working through 1st Samuel."
He took pleasure in this. God is one thing he would stop what he was doing immediately and pay attention to what was being said.
"What did you learn?"
I tried searching for an answer that would satisfy him and thought it would have been easier to just turn and walk out leaving dad sitting there waiting. Deciding that might not be the best idea, I leaned against the door.
"You know a little of this a little of that."
He looked over at me with a watchful eye knowing I didn't read it searching me with probing eyes. He knew I had a hard time getting into the Bible but he was determined to show me the only way to true happiness was through a personal relationship with God. Reading the Bible every day, meditating on its message was the only way he believed it was possible. I shifted from leg to leg leaning against the door trying to bury myself into it, just wanting out.
"What was your favorite verse?" he asked seeing the uncomfortable look I had written on my face.
"Ah, Proverbs 21:8." I said, picking a verse.
He immediately jumped on the verse like he just read it, showing me what he believed to be real study of God's word.
"Yes. 'The way of man is forward and strange; but as for the pure, his work is right.' Good verse. You know the first time I read that-" he started reaching for his Bible.
I had enough and decided it was now or never, I needed to escape the grilling of what I didn't do. I knew my dad, and I hated the constant questions and probing.
"Look dad, are we going to this thing or not?" I said for the last time turning and facing the door.
"In time, in time, why are you in such a rush? We've still got a few minutes,” he said while shoveling more cereal into his mouth.
"I got things to do." I said suddenly thinking of what might have become of Anne. I tried calling her cell last night on the way home from the church but just received her voicemail.
"Better than going to do God's work?" I knew I should have chosen my words more carefully but decided it was too late to change my approach to his question.
"Yeah. I got a lot to do today," trying to think of a story that might get me out of the hole I just dug myself into.
A sour look came over his face as he stared hard at me. He moved closer, coffee cup in hand.
"Like what?" he asked taking a sip, inches from my face.
"Things." I said backing into the wall.
"McCoy, we are brought here to do God's work. That should come first-."
"Yeah, yeah." I uttered.
"McCoy, why are you going then if you have so many other things to do that is more important than doing God's work?" He asked knowing what my answer probably would be. 'He's a good kid, Lord just help understand the glory of doing your work.' he thought to himself.
"I just think it's the right thing to do. I mean life is important isn't it? We should all have life." I noticed the sudden smile on dad's face and continued. "As well as life, I really did plan on going to this for a long time. I just wanted to surprise you in my going. You surprised?" I shrugged moving once again towards the door and deciding that if dad were not to follow then I would just walk out and wait outside.
"Very. But I am perplexed, if you want to go so badly then why are you so touchy this morning?" I forgot I had asked my father a question. I knew he would answer with another.
Without a thought he took my words as truth.
"I just had a rough night."
"You wanna talk about it?" He asked, obviously concerned.
"No. I'll just wait for you by the car." I said and exited with the agitation.
Dad quickly downed the rest of his coffee, placed it on the counter, grabbed his Bible and praised the Lord for the strength he was just given to speak to me with God's love in his heart.

Kindle eBook of the Day - Zombie Fallout by Mark Tufo

Late Fall – 2010

Reuters – Estimates say that nearly three thousand people nationwide, and fifteen thousand people worldwide have died of the H1N1 virus or Swine flu and nearly eighty thousand cases have been confirmed in hospitals and clinics across the United States and the world, the World Heath Organization reported. The influenza pandemic of 2010, while not nearly as prolific as the one that raged in 1918 still has citizens around the world in a near state of panic.

New York Post (Headlines October 31st) – Beware! Children Carry Germs! – Halloween Canceled!

New York Times – (Headlines November 3rd) – Swine flu claims latest victim – Vice President surrounded by family and friends at the end.

Boston Globe – (Headlines November 28th) – Swine Flu Vaccinations Coming!

Boston Herald – (Headlines December 6th) – Shots in Short Supply – Lines Long!

National Enquirer – (Headlines December 7th) – The Dead Walk!

There would be no more headlines.

It started in a lab at the CDC (Center for Disease Control), virologists were so relieved to finally have an effective vaccination against the virulent swine flu. Pressure to come up with something had come from the highest office in the land. In an attempt at speed the virologists had made two mistakes, first they used a live virus and second they didn’t properly test for side effects. Within days hundreds of thousands of vaccinations shipped across the US and the world. People lined up for the shots, like they were waiting in line for concert tickets. Fights broke out in drugstores as fearful throngs tried their best to get one of the limited shots. Within days the CDC knew something was wrong. Between 4 and 7 hours of receiving the shot roughly 95% succumbed to the active H1N1 virus in the vaccination. More unfortunate than the death of the infected was the added side effect of reanimation, it would be a decade before scientists were able to ascertain how that happened. The panic that followed couldn’t be measured. Loved ones did what loved ones always do, they tried to comfort, their kids or their spouses or their siblings, but what came back was not human not even remotely. Those people that survived their first encounter with these monstrosities usually did not come through unscathed, if bitten they had fewer than 6 hours of humanity left, the clock was ticking. During the first few hysteria ridden days of The Coming as it has become known, many thought the virus was airborne, luckily that was not the case or nobody would have survived. It was a dark time in human history. One from which we may never be able to pull ourselves out of the ashes from.

Kindle eBook of the Day - Nephilim by Renee Pawlish

Top #10 bestseller in Horror

Fans of Stephen King or Frank Peretti will love this!

Ancient beings that remain today. If you like fiction that challenges ancient history, then read on...

Other 5 out of 5 star reviews...

Nephilim Genesis of Evil is a chilling, horror outing that uses The Apocrypha as source material for its menacing beings. It's a well-crafted tale of the re-emergence of spirits who are the offspring of humans and angels. This is a powerful and well-written effort.
Sidney Williams, author of Midnight Eyes and Blood Hunter

Nephilim is a sort of twist on the vampire novel, a sort of supernatural detective novel set in a lakeside Colorado town, focusing on an ancient evil described in Genesis. I would associate it with the works of Stephen King.
Chris Nelson, dreamlogic.net

Nephilim Genesis of Evil
A dark power described in Genesis revisits a small mountain town.
A journalist who witnessed an evil presence searches for answers.
He finds a town succumbing to supernatural forces.
Now, an evil prophesy may be fulfilled by the Nephilim.

More GREAT reviews...

This was an amazing book...I could hardly put it down.
Sue Owen, author

Pawlish has created a wonderful story that will pull readers in from the very beginning. The mystery and suspense of the novel kept me on edge as I read and I highly suggest those interested in fallen angels read this novel.
A Book Vacation, book reviews

If you'd like to read humorous mysteries with a healthy dose of suspense, check out the Reed Ferguson mystery series.

5 Star Review
There is little doubt that Renée Pawlish is a promising new voice to the comic murder/mystery genre. Quite noticeable...is Pawlish's adept development of the plot coupled with her ability to contrive clear, concise and playful prose with almost perfect pacing.
Norman Goldman, Bookpleasures Publisher and Editor

5 Star Review
I hope you revel in the vicarious thrills as much as I did. The plot works on all levels, the supporting cast is great, and Pawlish reveals key elements of Reeds character with light brush strokes and a master's touch.

Kindle eBook of the Day - The Sentinel by Jeremy Bishop

In the frigid waters off the Arctic Ocean, north of Greenland, the anti-whaling ship, The Sentinel, and her crew face off against a harpoon ship in search of Humpback whales. When the two ships collide and a suspicious explosion sends both ships to the bottom, the crews take refuge on what they think is a peninsula attached to the mainland, but is actually an island, recently freed from a glacial ice bridge.

Seeking shelter, the two opposing crews scour the island for resources. Instead, they find Viking artifacts, the preserved remains of an ancient structure and a stone totem warning of horrible creatures buried in the island's caves. Facing violent, frigid storms, a hungry polar bear and the very real possibility that they are stranded without hope of rescue, Jane Harper leads the two crews, who must work together to defend themselves against an ancient evil upon which the modern stories of both zombies and vampires are based.

The original undead are awake and hungry. Beware the Draugar.

Jeremy Bishop, the #1 bestselling Amazon.com horror author is back, and his second novel, like his first, TORMENT, is full of fast-paced, run-for-your-life terror featuring a new take on the zombie (and vampire) genres. But this time, the story is tinged with sarcastic humor. As a result, THE SENTINEL is as funny as it is frightening. It is the Yin to TORMENT'S Yang.

PRAISE FOR JEREMY BISHOP

"Jeremy Bishop takes a terrifying bite out of the zombie genre with TORMENT. This is a dark and devious post-apocalypting thrill-ride!" -Jonathan Maberry, NY Times Bestselling authr of PATIENT ZERO and ROT & RUIN

"TORMENT is a nightmarish descent through Armageddon. With barely a pause for breath, Bishop drags you out of normality, straight into the depths of a devastated post-apocalyptic landscape. Surreal and extraordinary locations, grotesque characters and outlandish events rise up from the devastated ashes of the familiar in this startlingly original horror novel. Dreamlike, disturbing and never predictable, once you start reading, you won't want to put it down." -- David Moody, author of HATER, DOG BLOOD & the AUTUMN series.

"Jeremy Bishop explodes onto the zombie scene with TORMENT, a thought-provoking gorefest that turns the genre on its head. Both shocking and riveting, this is a debut novel that leaves the reader hungry for more." -- Steven Savile, #1 bestselling author of PRIMEVAL and SILVER

"With originality not seen since Fleischer's Zombieland, Bishop's debut novel will drag you kicking and screaming to the very bloody end. Look out Maberry ... there's a new sheriff in town."

"This is one of those kick-ass icky books that constantly surprised me. I'm looking forward to what Bishop has up his sleeve next." -- Jeff Ayers, Author Magazine

"TORMENT is a fast paced horror story filled with monsters and zombies (but not the kind you might expect in a novel like this). [It's] gory and intense, all things a book like this should be."

Kindle eBook of the Day - A Perfect Husband by Douglas Wickard

An abandoned cabin… a diabolical killer…a hidden cemetery… a deadly secret is about to be uncovered.

Far from the neon blur of Manhattan – the dizzy buzz of restaurants, theater openings and one too many cocktails – located seventy-two miles outside the City in the sleepy, rural township of Montague, New Jersey, Sami Saxton is looking to rebuild her life. A rebirth, one might call it. And, she intends to do this spiritual resurrection in a small, abandoned fishing cabin, built over forty years ago by her deceased father.

Not quite abandoned…

A lethal serial killer has taken up residence in the basement of Sami’s remote cottage, using her father’s carpenter table for a hobby much more sinister than woodcutting.

Sequestered deep within forty-two acres of tall pine trees, bristling brooks and fresh water lakes, Sami Saxton is about to fight for her life.

The hard truth… nobody will ever hear her scream!

"Wickard’s novel colorfully illuminates the two synchronized protagonists, each displaying profound characteristics: Sami has trouble adjusting to her new life and Smitty balances his secret life with his normal one, with a (living) wife and infant daughter at home." - Kirkus Reviews

Kindle eBook of the Day - The Grimm Curse by Stephen Carpenter

Fifteen year-old Jake Grimm is the last living descendent of the Brothers Grimm, who wrote the famous fairy tales in the 1800's. But Jake grew up with foster parents in Los Angeles, never knowing his true destiny until he ran away from his unhappy foster home, to the place of his birth--Woodland--a small town nestled deep in a Northwestern forest.

In Woodland, Jake discovers that the famous fairy tales are all real, and they are happening today. And Jake, as the last living Grimm, is the only one who can stop the witches, big bad wolves, and evil stepmothers who are all alive and well, and about to wreak havoc in the small town of Woodland.

But these fairy tales creatures are not like those in the old stories. Woodland is a modern place, and the creatures Jake battles seem like completely normal, modern people--to everyone but Jake. Only Jake can see them for what they really are, and, together with his friend and apprentice, Madeleine, he must fight to prevent the evil that is all around the unsuspecting teens at Woodland High.

With the GRIMM CURSE, author Stephen Carpenter has done for the Grimm Fairy Tales what the TWILIGHT series has done for vampires--brought them into the real world of today, with real teens who find themselves in the middle of a centuries-old struggle between good and evil.

Because once upon a time is now.

Kindle eBook of the Day - Sydney's Story: A Prequel to Tale of Two Cities by Eileen Granfors

A romp through historical 18th century England and France during the formative years of Sydney Carton, adult hero of the Dickens' classic, "A Tale of Two Cities." How did this brilliant, compassionate man become a dissolute drunk, willing to die for love?

A Must Read Prequel
August 11, 2012
By Robert J. McDonnell
Charles Dickens captivated the world's imagination with A Tale of Two Cities in 1859, selling over 200 million copies. One of his central characters, Sydney Carton, was a British barrister who struggled to redeem his ill-spent life. Talented author Eileen Granfors gives us an opportunity to understand the powerful experiences that molded Sydney's character and launched him on his collision course with destiny. This prequel is a must read for literary fiction fans.

Loved It!

By Maplesyrup
It's fun to read books that take off from a character I already know. Like Rebecca and Mrs. DeWinter. I got Sydney's Story in a preview copy from a friend who knows the writer.

I remember Sydney Carton in A Tale of Two Cities, which I read in school. What this author has done is go back through Tale to find some quotes about Sydney and build a portion of the book on that.

So the book doesn't require you to remember everything about Tale except the ending.

Mrs. Granfors gives Sydney an interesting (that's a mild word for what he goes through) childhood. There are scenes in insane asylums and diseases that are disgusting. He has one friend who influences him to try harder even though his parents favor the elder child. Then Part II is boarding school, full of boys' shenanigans. Part III really surprised me when Sydney went to Paris for Law School. I loved that part of the book because of the gypsies there. Part IV comes back to England and the reader sees again the characters out of Tale of Two Cities, but added to that are all the people from Sydney's past. The book comes to a wonderful conclusion that I will keep secret. I think the book helped me understand the Dickens' character.

If you Charles Dickens or historical fiction or both, like me, Sydney's Story should be on your list of books to read.

Sydney is Recalled To Life August 26, 2012
By sheba
The world of Charles Dickens is 'recalled to life" in SYDNEY'S STORY by Eileen Granfors. Europe of the 1700's, torn by poverty and a well-entrenched class system, is the backdrop for this dramatic prequel to A Tale of Two Cities. Here we have Sydney Carton, the undesirable drunken lawyer, returning as the main character. SYDNEY'S STORY draws a well-detailed picture of an unenviable childhood. Carton is the second son and is treated as second rate by a domineering father. His mother, unable to help him, finds herself treated like a servant and finally as a mental patient. Granfors shows us the life of a young man who is beleaguered by the boarding school system of England and friends who are too absorbed in their social status. We see Sydney struggle to finish college in Paris and start a legal practice with his school chum, Stryver. Happiness eludes him because of the strangling class system, personal losses, and addiction to alcohol.
I truly enjoyed this novel, as I felt like I was visiting old characters that had disappeared. Eileen Granfors has done a masterful job of bringing Sydney Carton back to life from the "far, far better rest."

Book Review- The Indie Author's Guide To The Universe

I had never heard of this author before purchasing this book so I came into it blind. I enjoyed this book because of many things but the one thing that sticks out to me, as a writer, is to never give up.
Encouragement is something every writer craves and Bennington does give us that in this book. Don't ever give up. I think he shares candidly about himself as a writer to show us where he has come from to where he is. This gives us great encouragement and the new writer just stepping on the scene and publishing their book thinking the dollars will roll in, Bennington gives us a reality check. Not a reality check thumbing his nose but one in terms of a mentor that says, hey congrats on writing the book, but you're not done yet, have you heard of building a platform? Do you know why you need an editor? And last but not least, write because you love to write not because of sales.
There is much more but you should buy this book, it is perfect for encouraging the seasoned writer as well as the newly published or soon to be published.

Whoa, where did you come from?

Ever reach a point in writing a story where a character pops out of nowhere and says, "um yeah, author, I have more to add to this story, put me in coach." Suddenly he/she becomes a minor/major character that can add more then you ever dreamed?
You become intrigued by the possibilities of them and still you try to write. In your head they won't keep quiet. They sit there and explain everything and finally you have to turn from your work and listen to them. Letting them tell their story to you and their plan to execute it. They have to convince you and you sit back and say, "Whoa, where did you come from?"
Enjoy those moments and listen to your characters, they have more to tell you then what they already have.
This is one of the joys of writing, all your characters either despise you, look forward to ruining your beloved main character, or try as hard as they can to become your favorite. The one you couldn't live with out. They become real people and not just characters anymore.
You find yourself asking like you may ask your son or daughter, what are you thinking or why are you doing that you know better. Either way you have love for them, they are friends and you are their confidant.
Enjoy the amount of time you share with them and listen to what they have to say. It makes your job easier.

New blurb for The Valley of Candles

My last blurb for The Valley of Candles wasn't very good. Actually it was horrible. I'm not afraid to say it, being an Indie Author has given me a chance to better myself as a writer. I can see my faults with a more critical eye then before and am willing to change my dreadful ways. I would even go as far as saying I was doing more harm then good to my sales with the old blurb.
So without any delay, here is my new blurb for The Valley of Candles.

Book Blurb
The ultimate battle is raging between good and evil in the small town of Harper, Wisconsin where McCoy O'Neal and Matt Morris enter their senior year with no plans for the future. McCoy is dominated by his overbearing religious father and spends all of his time with his girlfriend, who is out of his league. When tragedy strikes and McCoy has nowhere to live, Matt mysteriously has all the answers he swears have come from God who has visited him.
McCoy follows Matt's lead with determination. When rituals and miracles become the norm McCoy subcums to the disbelief he always carried about religion. Their lives go from misery to triumph and suddenly nothing they do is wrong as the two dive deeper into their worship. The local Pastor has doubts about the two and enlists the help of a classmate who is on the front lines. Is there anything to turn the tide or is there something more sinister at work coming from an outside source?
As the darkness grows the stage is set and the ultimate question of who God is will be answered, but can you accept the answer?

You can pick up The Valley of Candles for your Kindle at Amazon or if you prefer a paperback copy, that can be purchased from eStore.

As always, happy reading.

New Cover for The Valley of Candles

I know, I know, I have changed cover for The Valley of Candles before. Why do it again? Well, to be honest the last cover looked horrible and I don't know why I even chose it. Must have been stress or the kids or work. Anyhow, it was just bad. So I give you the new updated cover for my novel, The Valley of Candles.

I am interested in hearing what you think.

There is another reason for the cover change but that surprise is reserved for my next post, so stay tuned and as always, happy reading adventures. May your imagination take you someplace new.

A New Direction

So I haven't posted in a bit because I have been working on Hayfield Manor. I am happy to say the novel is coming along nicely. However, I have been reading more which I think is only going to enhance the novel.
I am even thinking about going back and doing a revised edition to The Valley of Candles but that's for a different post.
From what I have seen so far this month is less in terms of sales and more in terms of output. I am okay with this for one reason only. I am a writer, I love to write. I am not writing for dollars but because I love entertaining readers.
Hayfield Manor has been a struggle because I want to find out the right tone for this story. What I am finding is the characters are still searching for their faith in many areas and are still faced with many questions about the unseen world.
I don't want to give to much away of course but this upcoming adventure will see many characters from the first novel in situations beyond their control and in the will of God. How will they cope? This is the story they are telling me now and I am too eager to listen.
To start from the beginning feel free to check out The Valley of Candlesat Amazon.

Wrought with terror, rituals and a suspenseful storyline, this tale leaves the reader questioning their own beliefs, irresistible to put down and written in short fast paced chapters in the tradition of James Patterson.
Being called a dark novel about a young man searching for God, The Valley of Candles asks the tough questions you may have about why things happen to good people or why there is so much violence in the world.
Written over a period of ten years The Valley of Candles is the beginning of The Valley Testament series that will bring you to a world where nothing is what it seems as you live the through the horrors, trials, and triumphs of two outsiders McCoy O'Neal and Matt Morris.

Virtual Book Tour Coming for The Valley of Candles

Well, here goes nothing. Tomorrow I will start planning my first ever book tour for my novel, The Valley of Candles. Needless to say, I am nervous. I never thought my little story come this far. I am very excited to share with others my experiences and hope to help some along the way.
This has been the busiest and most exciting time in my life. Having a son only five short months ago and seeing my other child finish kindergarten recently are two of my biggest highlights. One day I hope to share the adventure with them about dad's first book and teach them about the courage it takes to face the world with your creation, good or bad. As writers, these stories are our babies that never seem to grow up. We will always look on them fondly with many memories and emotions.
I look forward to this next step for The Valley of Candles and hope you do as well. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions I would love to hear from you.

Sonnet #1

#1
When you walk the earth in shame
I wonder why you've turned away
As you wonder if things shall be the same
Once the time has come to join the fray
Then you look upon the sky
Life has gained a mile
And you stare above to ask why?
What must come to add to the pile
I see the gathering of your fate
Then your pain shall cease to be
As shall be all your hate
All you must do us look to me
Happiness shall be gained
And no longer will anything be feigned.

Please let me know what you think of this cover for my upcoming poetry release, Deep Down

A Support System is Essential to the Writer

As we all know as a writer support is crucial as we put in long hours crafting our stories. Support is something I think we all crave during this process. As an Indie author I think we crave it even more, especially after the book has been written.
Once the final touches are put on our stories we enter into a phase that may seem mind boggling compared to the story we just finished. We might even get questioned on why we spend so much time on twitter or Facebook promoting our work. It is important for us as writers to make it known to our support system that the book isn't finished once the story is complete and that we need their support in the venture.
I have done this my fiancée as she has seen me tirelessly on my iPhone using twitter to support and promote other indie authors and this morning she said to me, "Go get on twitter,". I was amazed and delighted that The Valley of Candles has become a part of the family, that we are all in it together so to speak.
When I was working last night on twitter in between watching Supernatural and spending time with our 3 month old son and working on finishing a writing project she sat by encouraging me.
Without a support system writers have a very difficult time accomplishing what we need to do. The support The Valley of Candles has received on Twitter and Facebook has also been rejuvenating as we think our book is never going to see the light of day let alone get into the readers hands.
So if you get the chance today thank your support system whoever they maybe, let them know it is noticed and appreciated. Only good thing can come of it. Have a great Sunday!

Paranoia Runs Deep

~From my upcoming poetry release Deep Down
Paranoia runs deep
As I try to sleep
Thoughts of death and decay
Who am I
My world will change in
The coming day
The stroke of my pen
Shall be my only friend
I feel lost
With the coming morning frost
I gather my thoughts and
Begin the journey again
For which I have long fought

Sneek peek at Hayfield Manor

~From Chapter One
Outside the wind was howling, roaring past her bedroom window. There had been a wind advisory issued for the town of Hayfield by the national weather service of winds reaching an excess of 45 to 50 miles per hour. And it sure did seem to come out of nowhere. The bright sunny day that Daphne had enjoyed earlier, laying out on her lawn, texting her friends now seemed to be a distant memory as she stared out her window at the darkening clouds and the leaves being ripped from their stations.
Daphne could hear the howl and it mad her skin crawl. Now being eight in the evening her mind drifted back to how the sudden temperature drop from the mid-80's to 50 degrees made her skin prickle and shudder. She wrapped a blanket about herself trying to warm up. She had never heard of such a temperature drop. She wasn't even sure it was possible. But then again things haven't been quite normal lately.
Her dad, Jeff had recently lost his job at the mill and had now spent his days pulling out his hair trying to figure out how he was going to put food in the table for his family. He had his 401k that he could cash in on but considered that as his last resort. Right now his savings account and the life insurance policy from his parents death last year was carrying them afloat. From his estimation he had about three months left before the 401k option became a reality.
As he sat in his study going over his financials on his laptop suddenly the lights flickered signaling time for a change. Shortly following the flicker the screen on his laptop sunddenly went on the fritz. Window after window popped up as it was infected with a virus. He clicked and clicked out of boxes hoping to end the madness but then everything went off at once and the shutters flew open followed by a howling wind.
Jeff stood in the dark heading towards the windows frantically trying to shut them but failing miserably. Pushing back against the wind, Jeff was pelted by flying twigs through the opened window. Finally gaining control by settling his feet like the football player he used to be Jeff finally gained enough strength to latch the windows shut.
As he turned back to his study in the dark everything came back on at full blast. Booming out of his stereo came the newest Adele song, "In The Deep" piercing his ears so forcibly he had to put his hands to his ears to muffle the sound. As he walked to his stereo to turn it down he noticed the damage done to his study and quickly thought, "shit, there goes what savings we had left," and wondered if he had paid the home owners insurance last month.
Letting his mind wander was the last thing he remembered as a shape of a woman with her hair in a bun took shape in front of him. She was wearing an apron and flickered in black and white, like a transmission from a 50's television show. Although not like any show he remembered. This wasn't Mrs. Cleaver from Leave It To Beaver. This woman had sores on her face oozing with a black pus that smelled like rotten meat. The woman flickered again and her head jerked no looking at Jeff who had frozen in his step. Her hands came to her waist and her fingers broke backwards with just her palms now showing. Jeff could hear the cracking of bones and a chill went through him. Bugs of all kinds came crawling out of her ears and her decaying teeth started to fall out followed by oozing drips of blood which landed on the front of her apron and then to the hardwood floor. Jeff could hear the splash of each drop and let his eyes fall to see them forming a puddle.
Only his eyes seemed to be allowed to move as he went back to the face that held his body frozen. A cackle came forth now as her strapped heels scrapped across the floor to him flickering with each step and head cocking from angle to angle. Jeff franticly tried to scream but was only allowed a whisper. His voice was held in a vice grip as she reached him. He stared into her eyes as they went hot white then blood red. So focused on the eyes Jeff failed to see her fingers regain form or the axe that ended his wonder. It came quickly severing his head from his body allowing blood to spurt from his neck and join the puddle of blood she had already begun to make.
His body took take a few steps forward to its intended destination of the radio but then fell to the ground helpless and unable to worry again how he would put food on his table.

Each Day - poem

Each Day
The world gets harder each day
As my life is stripped away
I see the darkness coming
And I am to blame
The feelings in my heart and to hard to part
I look to the future and only see the past
And I wish upon the hope of the dawning new day
But how can I say with what lies within me
That this dream is swiftly falling away
The topic at hand may seem risky to play
And you look to me for answers
But I have none,
My heart too is just like you
Drowning in this confusion.

Humpty

Humpty
The earth trembles
You stand firm in place
Troubles you not this catastrophe
You smile and ask if I am okay?
Okay?
Can't you see I wait for death!
You ask, are you okay in a soothing tone?
It doesn't have to be
The Army shall come!
Little white shilouted men
Shall put you back together again.
Sure they will!
As I sit in agony
Your care has not subdued the pain I feel.
The ledge upon where I sit, has long since broken.
Fear not for they will come,
They have heard your cries
And they shall wipe away your tears.
They will put Humpty Dumpty back together
AGAIN.

Vow

Just a man
Nothing more
Nothing less
But I tell you dear love
I will try to provide in all I do
Take care and tell you I love you
On the warm summer days
To the cold dark nights
I will lay next to you
And hold on tight
The day will never come
That I will no longer care
I will always live you
And long to hold you near.
